Hyssop ( Hyssopus officinalis) akin to the mint family and as a biblical herb suggested uses besides protecting the chosen people from pharaohs wrath suggests digestive issues, intestinal and respiratory issues.
Oh, spiritual cleansing hyssop. Hyssop in the Lamiaceae family is a herbaceous plant native to Southern Europe and the Middle East. Hyssop appears in the Christian Bible several times. It was used for religious purification. I do have to add that there are several types of hyssops and the one mentioned in the bible maybe different than what we know today. However, the plant has its culinary and medicinal purposes. As a culinary fresh herb can be used in cooking, to flavor liqueur, and used by beekeeper so to encourage rich aromatic honey. As medicinal use it is great for a cough syrup due to its soothing and cough suppressant properties. It is also known to have antiseptic properties too. It’s been used in eye drops and mouthwash, but a word of caution hyssop oil can cause seizures and convulsions.
