Allergies and You
Allergies start as simple sneeze but when the sneezes continue and become many than we know that it is an allergy. Allergies are so common to the human species we just think its natural and annoyance just has to be dealt with and tolerated like mosquitoes. But Allergies come in a wide variety of issues such as dust mites, pollen, mold, wheat, nuts, pet dander or even wool, fabric softener or perfumes to give you just a few. But most allergies are food born just as much as air born especially dairy products. You can tackle allergies if you have the right resources and knowledge to combat the attack of histamines which build up in your body. There are antibodies called Immunoglobulin E. in which the antibodies trigger the release of chemicals known as histamines which set off a chain reaction that leads to various allergic reactions.
A Few years ago, I had severe allergies which would turn into chronic bronchitis. Also, I was diagnosed with a rare allergy related condition called Interstitial Cystitis. The particular disease is an allergic reaction to preservatives and nitrates that are found in the food processes and as well as some of the synthetic chemicals in skin and hair care products. It’s been over 14 years since the initial diagnoses and fortunately I can report I’m almost 100 percent better compared to the frequency of episodes, multiple tests, barrage of physicians and the 16 prescribed medications I took daily.
One thing for certain we do not recognize all allergies unless we see the effects of it such as runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion, coughing, respiratory or drug allergies, itchy watery eyes, throats, and constant sniffles that are associated with allergies. The interesting part is that we can determine the category to which you are possibly prone.
These allergies can be broken down to drug and/or respiratory symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, and coughing. Next, there are respiratory ailments such as itchy throat, mouth, and eyes. And then there are the food born allergies which causes stomachaches, indigestion, vomiting, and diarrhea. Drug, food and insect allergies symptoms are itchy, reddening, swelling, or irritated skin. Food or drug allergies are swollen, stiff and/ or painful joints. But one of the most notorious forms of allergies is eczema which is an allergic reaction to such things as dairy products, and nuts as well. Allergic reactions can start off slowly over time and complicate matters as you are older such as acid reflux, skin rashes, and lactose intolerances. We tend to single out these problems without knowing there is a connection besides the constant hay fever that we experience in the spring and summer months.
What can you do?
If you are taking an over-the-counter allergy medicine but are tired of sleepiness, drowsiness or the tired and dried out feeling that are associated with these medications then try to increase the levels of nutrients and vitamins that are already part of your body’s chemistry such as Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a natural antihistamine that has been found to prevent allergies and asthma. Take 10 to 30 milligrams daily for every 2 pounds of body weight, example if you weigh 200 lbs. than you will need to take it 1000 to 3000 milligrams daily.
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) has proven to be effective in asthma patients. Take 25-50 mgs twice daily
Selenium levels tend to be low in asthma attacks. Selenium contains an enzyme that reduces leukotriene formation. Take 200-400 micrograms (mcg) daily.
Coenzyme Q 10 helps prevent productions of histamines, takes 50-150 mgs daily.
Quercetin is a bioflavonoid that is a natural antihistamine and anti-asthma agent. It is usually included in allergy related formulas. Take 400 mgs five to twenty minutes before each meal
Herbal Supplements
Licorice is anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic agent. Take any one of the following 3 times daily 1-2 grams of powder root, 2 -4 milliliters of fluid extract or 250-500 mgs of solid powder extract.
Nettle relieves sneezing and itchy eyes. Take one of the following 3 times daily, two 300 mgs capsules, tablets or two 4 milliliters of tincture.
